Marine Operations: 500m safety zone

Marine Operations: 500m safety zone

A ‘500m safety zone’ surrounds all installations; the OIM or a delegate is responsible for all marine operations in this zone and vessels must be invited to enter. Having a ‘marine responsible person’ communicating with and monitoring the movements of the vessels within this 500m safety zone is good practice in the prevention of collisions.

This document outlines the good practice involved when vessels work within the 500m safety zone including safe approach and pre-entry checks, working alongside and exiting the safety zone. The responsibilities of personnel on the vessel and the platform are described, highlighting the importance of a marine responsible person.

An A3 poster is also available.
